On Tuesday, Hugo Chávez Frías, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, backed his Paraguayan counterpart, Fernando Lugo, in the face of plans for a coup d’état against his government.
Speaking from South Africa in an interview with Telesur, a Latin American broadcaster, Chávez noted that Paraguay is not alone. “We are with Paraguay and any attempt against Paraguayan democracy will be an attempt against Venezuela, against all of Latin America.”
